incense of winter:
a wake of moss, juniper—
billowing in velvet ribbons.
boughs hanging on the air like words,
sinking from the weight of snow,
leaning in to listen—
here you are
gathered in the arms of the spruce,
whispering the words of the river:
how wild, how lovely
to be in the company of mountains.
how sad, how lonely
to see them leave,
melt into worrystones.
how kind
to know the mountains
will always long for you, too.
