terra verte—
when the weight of winter
cracks and splits.

the truest shade of green,
electric, viridian—
tumbling out of the earth,
fragments of serpentine and apatite
into the muddy river below.

it’s then,
when the lilacs bloom—
sweet like rosewater and almond blossoms,
cloudy, new, awake.
hazy with wonder
of what will be.
