to someone, you are a butterfly in a coffeeshop.
unexpected, wonderful—
you are the anticipation of a camera shutter,
the creek rolling over smooth stones.
you are the mourning dove cooing in the evening trees,
a meadowlark’s song in late July.
bright summer strawberries, gathered up in sticky hands,
roadside wildflowers, a rainy day in June.

to someone, you are a curious, wonderful being
